It was an eventful weekend – perched on the bar, sipping a cocktail, eyes glued to the TV screen watching Hardik Pandya dismantling Pakistan’s middle order when a random post popped up – How Much is Enough? Amidst the high-pressure environment, the simplicity of the question put my mind into a spiral of introspection and inquisitiveness. Was the question asked from a monetary point of view? Was it asked keeping in view the India-Pakistan Asia cup match? Or was it asked out of context?
Confused and lost in my thoughts, I randomly popped the question to my friends and the answers were mind-blowing, if not exhilarating. A couple of replies stood on the lines of – 150 ml should be enough. A convoluted reply from a physics fetishist read as-
You cant define enough as a single variable. Enough is a variable that is dependent on another variable, time. The time of your life at which this question is asked. Now enough, e is a function f of time, t i.e e=f(t) +c where the constant c is a constant depending on the person’s life appetite
A pedagogy student came up with a simple, yet well thought reply pertaining to ones state of mind, which read as –
Having Enough is a state of mind.
So it can’t really be confined to a single answer or perspective of mine.
A light-hearted reply came in the form of –
I don’t feel it’s enough until I’m broke
The last reply to the super out-of-nowhere question came from a sleep-deprived Master’s student on the verge of appearing for her finals. She professed –
It is enough when you have worked enough that allows you to sleep in peace eventually
As I was scrolling through the vibrant replies, the commentator’s voice boomed on the microphone,” Did Pak score enough?”. I couldn’t contain my amusement at the timing of the comment when the bar tender quoted the timeless saying –
Only time will tell if its enough
