The first rays of sunshine hit the lush green carpet as the Sun woke up from it’s slumber, yawning and stretching, brushing aside the blanket of night to welcome a new day, a new month, a new year or as the Georgian calender spells out – January, the first.
True to its title of being the most eventful day of the otherwise dull month – January, the first had the misty air buzzing with New year resolutions, as the sun began its ascent up the hills. Amongst the murmurs, a distinct voice stood out, one that has been perfected over eons and could almost parallel the lullaby of Time – The Ravens Song.
'The raven on the neem tree, perched so high
With a bold caw that echoes across the sky
A bard of untold mysteries and secrets,
It's a bird that's both feared and revered.
With a tinge of magic and a magestic yawn,
The black knight spreads its wings & takes flight-
Gliding through the fresh rays of sunshine
With a grace that's swift and stealthy
The old Knight flies across the kingdom,
Rallying its troops of fellow revered knights
An army of unparalled wisdom and bravery
It scans the kingdom for lost souls
For goes their clarion call as such-
"Fear not lost souls, for we are here!
Fear not lost souls, for we are here
To accompany thou to the afterlife
Where sinners shall be sinned upon
Where rewards rain upon the saints.
Come forth and show thyself to us!
Come forward, saints and show thyself to us
For the battle of life is won and
Over land & sea, across the rainbow
Lies Swarga-loka, where Indra and glory awaits
Come forth and show thyself to us!
Come forth, sinners and show thyself to us
For we are Yama's messengers and
In Naraka, lies an opportunity to atonement."
So next time you see a raven on your way
Remember the magic it holds at bay.
A creature of unparalled wisdom and beauty,
It's a bird, that will forever ignite
